Who Are You? (Christian content)

Who Are You?
Who Are You?

“Who are you?”

“Don’t you know?”

“If I knew I wouldn’t be asking!”

“True, but then sometimes we meet people we have actually been acquainted with before, just not for a long time. That’s why we don’t immediately recognize them.”

“So I do know you?”

“So…who are you?”

“Let me ask you a question, where are you?”

“Where are you?”

“Well I’m right here, in my room.”

“That’s your geographical position, yes.”

“That’s what you asked.”

“Well I didn’t specify a geographical place, as it happens, that was the assumption you made.”

Puzzled silence.

“What assumption am I supposed to make?”

“Where are you?”

Puzzled silence.

“I’ll give you a clue, I’m not talking geographically, I’m talking spiritually.”

Slightly less puzzled silence.

“…spiritually…not great, to be honest.”

“When did the ‘not great’ start?”

“Years ago.”

“Bad experience.”

“…and before that?”

Thoughtful silence.

“I would say I was pretty spiritually active, prayer meetings, church, youth groups, evangelism, a right wee holy person. But aside from all the activity, I was spiritual inside, without sounding big headed. I had a depth about me, not mega deep, but beyond the surface. There were other times I wasn’t actually active in terms of participating in loads of groups and the like but I was still spiritually alive inside.”

“So how did you get from there to ‘not great’?”

“As I said, bad experience, bad enough to rock my faith.”

“What happened after that?”

“I gradually stopped doing the active things, prayer groups, church, youth groups, evangelism etc.”

“What happened to the not quite mega depth but beyond the surface?”

“It went a bit chaotic, it was hit by an explosion of sorts and since then the waters have been stormy and cloudy, no inner calm and little inner clarity.”

“Would I be right in saying, based on what you’ve said, that the inner depth is still there but it’s stormy and cloudy and chaotic?”

Thoughtful silence.

“I think so yes.”

Lengthy silence.

“I think I know who you are…”

“Welcome back.” :-)

“Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?”” (John 14:9)

Be nice, be contrary, but don't be rude :-)
